You look online for lots of things, say “CLEAR internet providers in my area” or “What color is the new black?” but did you know that information is stored and used to help search engines better tailor results to your lifestyle? Here are a few of the ways your internet’s being personalized that you might not even notice
Personalized Ads: If you’re a Gmail user like so many others you may have noticed oddly specific ads at the top of the page for items you need. The trick is that your emails are being scanned for pertinent information so if you’re writing about having a baby expect to see strollers being advertised to you.
Personalized Results: Have you ever noticed when you search for “Thai Food” you automatically get restaurants in your city? That’s because search engines use your IP address to pinpoint your location and serve you results that are likely more pertinent to your area. Just a trick of the trade.
Landing Pages: Oftentimes websites will have specific landing pages for specific customersnew customers get the flashy sale page whereas returning customers get a loyalty program page. It’s all tied back into that IP address.

Computer usage is at an all-time high. Many families, that had never before owned or used a computer, now have one or two in their homes. Many families also have invested in smart phones, tablets, and laptops. With these computers prevalent in our lives, parents may be wondering how computers can help their children.

Children seem to be naturally drawn to computers. They seem to pick up technology so quickly and enjoy playing around. One of misnomers of computers and kids are that kids that use computers a lot will grow up and be fat or lazy. Computers and televisions are much different in scope. Television produces little to no activity and also has shown to have a dramatic increase in eating. Computers can educate, inspire, and create a career field. Children can read books, have them read to them, or draw and paint. They can take a PC, laptop, or tablet and practice math problems, spelling words, and learn through interactive games. Just like with anything else, parents must monitor the amount of time that is spent using computers. Parents must also constantly check to make sure that their children are doing things on their computers that they are comfortable with.

Almost any device that is WI-FI capable, has the ability to have the Internet password protected. This means that if a child tries to connect to the Internet on their phone, tablet, or laptop that they would need the password. As long as parents take the necessary precautions to protect their children these computers can be a valuable and necessary tool for educating children. Try and remember that television and computers are very different in their learning scope and activity level. Set limits and boundaries but allow the positive and creative learning of computers to help your child mature and grow.

Everyone knows that your computer seems to run so fast when you first take it out of the box, and then quickly seems to drop to a snail’s pace after just a few weeks. There are several tips that are easy to do that keep your computer running smooth and clean.

Make sure you run those updates! Doesn’t matter if you are a gamer or just checking email; updates help fix issues in the software your computer is running. Chances are if you are seeing performance issues, you will find some updates that will update your system in ways that will help.

Schedule disk defragmenting sessions using your computer’s scheduling option. Over time, your PC will gather tons of bits of information that are actually fragments of files scattered all over the place (imagine Lego blocks scattered all over a child’s room). Defragmenting the hard drive is a great way to keep your programs loading quickly.

Another way to help the performance of your system is to dump your temporary internet files. You can do this from your web browser, usually listed in the “tools” section. As you surf, the files you view pile up in the far corners of your hard drive and getting rid of them is always a good idea.

Finding games that are appropriate for children can be difficult. Luckily there is a huge assortment of games that are out there. From Educational games that teach specific skills to Adventure games that will have kids solving problems to progress a story. There are some general guidelines that should be used though.

Most games come with a rating system that is marked on both the front and back of games stating what the ratings board thinks is appropriate in terms of age group as well as possible content that parents may find objectionable.Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here. Using this as a foundation should help at least get an idea of what is out there. Keep in mind though that some types of games, like Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) titles can be rated for teens but due to chat content in the game between players, could be inappropriate.

I also tend to encourage talking to the clerks in the stores to get good ideas of both popular and appropriate titles as they would see what seems to sell well and may have heard some feedback. Online review sites can tend to be biased but many of the major companies do also offer free trials that would allow you to test the game for a short period of time to help you assess them.

Because of the unfiltered nature of the world wide web, the internet can be a dangerous place for children. However, by following a few simple steps, you can help your child avoid the internet’s pitfalls. First, teach your child how to find a website safely using a major search engine. Some of the major search engines have filters to screen inappropriate content from the user’s search. Others let you preview the site before visiting it in full. Once your child has found the website he or she is looking for, bookmark the page in your internet browser. By doing this, your son or daughter can access the website easily without having to search for it again. Second, give your child a time frame for internet usage. By setting parameters for your child’s web usage, you can help him or her to stay alert. Alertness on the web is a must. Last, spend some time looking for safe sites that appeal to your child’s interests. If you filter the sites yourself, you can help your child keep safe on the internet. These guidelines are only a start, but, by following them, your child will have a great time on the internet.Related Article : Several Quality Web Design Traits
